Initiated by her observations of shadows in the earth The artist took months experimenting with a method to convey objects with two dimensions onto canvas. The subject is a mirror of its own, while the canvas is carrying the painterly interpretation of the object. This is especially true when it is a living item or something perishable, like people or fruit. Her ephemeral art style is apparent and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's art is a photographs. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of photographing and painting. The result is an unflattened and two-dimensional photograph. Meade often integrates her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows the model to be a part of their own world. By doing so, Meade is able to blur the lines between photography, painting and performing.
