
Ormond was the daughter Josephine of a lab technician as well as John Ormond (a stockbroker) who lived in Epsom, Surrey. She is the second child of five children for her parents. Her early performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. Then she attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After one year in arts college, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in 1988. Ormond first made an appearance on British TV in the serial Traffik The story revolves around the illicit drug trade that stretches from the far East to the streets of Europe. Ormond played the drug addicted daughter of the lead character, who was a Home Office minister in the UK government engaged in combating heroin importation. The role was a hit and received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
