She's reported on sports at many of the top publications around the world. The journalist spent more than a decade covering the sport for The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. Nichols began her career at ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She spent nearly nine years with the company, winning the network two Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched programs on ESPN including SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. She also served as a sideline journalist for the Monday Night Football broadcasts. She then moved to CNN and Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN as well as CNN International. It had over one billion viewers around the globe. Nichols worked for TNT as a reporter, reporting on NBA games including regular season, playoffs as well as All Star shows. Her duties with TBS covered golf and baseball coverage, and Final Four broadcasts by CBS. It was the only moment in the award's 42-year tradition that a woman has been nominated amongst the more than 200 candidates.
